When I had to provide final detailing to MPC for the ship, I shifted to a heavily 2D mode for efficiency. Taking inspiration from Rob Cobb's incredible illustrations for the first Alien, I even decided to stick with a high-key "hand drawn" look so as to avoid all the rendering considerations I usually spend (waste?) time on. This allowed me not only just indicate detail with lines, but also to quickly integrate 2D photographic elements from a wide variety of kitbashing sources (thank you, restorers of the Nostromo miniature, for posting so many great photos online). It was then a cinch, it turned out, to color these "drawings" into more rendered looking images. MPC did an incredible job actually modelling and texturing all the stuff I sketched.
